"It is our aspiration that all people of Amsterdam with disabilities have an opportunity to become participants in our city"

Social Procurement as standard practice

Foundation De Omslag organised a kick-off: with a social tour, the results of the Monitor 2015 of Amsterdam’s social firms and the launch of a campaign, we light the way to make social procurement standard practice in Amsterdam.

Lead buyers of the municipality of Amsterdam received a tour of social firms where they can purchase products or services. With the procurement of products and services from social firms, they contribute to the employment of people with occupational disabilities.

Monitor 2015
During the kick-off for the campaign for social procurement, Goed gedaan, goed voor je zaak presented De Omslag with interesting figures concerning the growth in the sector of social enterprises. Monitor 2015 reveals, among others things, that social firms more than doubled in the past two years. Over 2820 people with an employment disability works within these social enterprises, and 317 people streamed from unpaid work to paid employment.

Clients speak
Businesses do not lag far behind. Companies such as PostNL, the Dutch Association of Banks and Marqt are consciously procuring socially. Edmond Stassen of the Dutch Association of Banks: “Swink provides high-quality services in an inspirational way. The limitations of the employees are not relevant, on the contrary, it is their strength.” Social procurement is a smart way to shape CSR policy.
